Our Story
A few years ago, we decided to take our kids camping for the first time. We had no idea what we were doing.
We bought a tent that was too small, forgot half the essentials, burned dinner, and set up camp in a spot that turned into a puddle at 2am. The kids loved every minute of it.
That trip changed everything. We were hooked. But when we tried to find honest, family-focused camping gear advice online, we kept running into the same problem: most sites were either written for hardcore backpackers who hike 20 miles a day, or they were generic listicles that recommended products without ever using them.
Nobody was writing for us, regular parents who just wanted to take their kids outside, cook some hot dogs, and watch the stars. Parents who needed to know which tent actually fits a family of four (with room for the dog), which sleeping bag keeps a toddler warm at 45°F, and whether a $350 YETI cooler is really worth it when a $45 Coleman does 90% of the job.
So we built Day4Camp. The site we wished existed when we started.
How We Review Gear
We take our recommendations seriously. Here’s how we decide what makes our lists and what doesn’t
Research
For every article, we analyze product specifications, read verified customer reviews across multiple retailers (Amazon, REI, Backcountry, Walmart), review manufacturer claims, and study what other trusted sites are saying.
Compare
We build comparison spreadsheets with specs, prices, warranty terms, user ratings, and value-for-money scores. Every product is evaluated against its direct competitors.
Evaluate for Families
Here’s where we’re different. We filter everything through a family lens. Is it easy to set up while wrangling a toddler? Is it durable enough for kids? Does it fit in a normal car trunk? Is there a budget-friendly option? If a product only works for solo ultralight hikers, it doesn’t belong on Day4Camp.
Write Honestly
We give every product a score out of 10, list real pros and cons, and name specific alternatives. If something is overpriced, we say so. If a cheap product outperforms a premium one, we say that too. Our goal is to help you make the right decision, not to push you toward the most expensive option.

We know there are a lot of gear review sites out there. Here’s what makes us different
We’re 100% independent. No brand tells us what to write, what to recommend, or what score to give. We have affiliate relationships with retailers (see our Affiliate Disclosure), but those relationships never influence our recommendations. A product that pays 15% commission will never make our list if it isn’t genuinely good.
We always include a budget option. Camping shouldn’t require a second mortgage. Every gear list includes affordable picks alongside premium ones, because a $40 Coleman tent can create memories just as good as a $600 REI one.
We point out the flaws. No product is perfect. If a tent leaks in heavy rain, if a sleeping bag runs cold, if a cooler’s latches break after one season, we tell you. Our credibility depends on it.
We write for real families. Not for gear junkies. Not for thru-hikers. For parents who want to give their kids an experience away from screens, and who need practical, honest advice to make it happen.
We never gate-keep. There’s no such thing as “not outdoorsy enough” to go camping. If you’ve never slept in a tent, welcome. You belong here.
Meet the Team
I’m Cleverson de Almeida, a dad of 2 who’s been camping since 2014. Our family camps 6 weekends a year across Upper Pines Campground, Yosemite National Park. When I’m not testing tents in the backyard or arguing with my kids about which sleeping bag is theirs, I manage personal marketing projects in addition to my work at the agency. Day4Camp is the guide I wish I had when I took my family camping for the first time.
